Battlefield 3 gets two new trailers, release date, and open beta
EA announced the Battlelog service—while taking some shots at Activision—before E3. During the company's press conference, it dropped two other pieces of news: the game will be released on October 25 for the 360, PS3, and (most importantly) the PC, and there will be an open, multi-platform beta coming the first week or two of September.
Just in case you weren't excited enough, EA has also released two new videos of the game, showing the advanced features of the Frostbite 2.0 engine and a few moments of the multiplayer gameplay. Above and below.
One more interesting tidbit from the E3 fact sheet: "Players can express their individuality with their own dog tag that gets displayed to defeated enemies. Players choose a design with a dynamically tracked in-game stat that expresses their personality and play-style," the company stated. Neat!
The release date is good news, the open beta is better news, and the fact I'll be playing the game for myself tomorrow to get a feel for the game in action is the best news. EA may not be above taking some potshots at Activision, but it looks like the company has a game that can back up the smack talk.
