BF2 returning in a big way - 'Battlefield 3' Getting Classic Maps In Pre-Order Bonus
Click image to enlarge image of 'The popular Wake Island map, 1943-style.'
Along with the debut single player gameplay for Battlefield 3 this week, also confirmed is the Back to Karkand expansion, which includes some of the best content from Battlefield 2, redone in the new Frostbite 2.0 engine. Karkand will be free to all who pre-order, and likely paid DLC for those who don't.
Naturally, fans have been wondering which maps would be included. You can stop that now, as Battlefield global community manager Daniel Matros has confirmed Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula, the first of which should ease the pain for PC players disappointed in the cancelation of 1943. On these maps, Matros says, players have collectively tallied over 25,000 years of playtime.
On the possibility of bringing in more maps from BF2 later on, and whether or not BF2 guns will make it into the main game, he says, "Can't comment on that at the moment."
'Battlefield 3' Getting Classic Maps In Pre-Order Bonus
"Battlefield 3" is out later this year and it is looking super sweet in its newly released trailer. Those who pre-order the Limited Edition version of the game will nab themselves the Rod to Karkand DLC map pack. While there's been no official press release, a DICE rep confirmed the contents of the pack on the game's forums.
Wake Island, Strike at Karkand and Gulf of Oman och Sharqi Peninsula are the map locations, writes forum member zh1nt0, the global community manager for "Battlefield." That's all though, no more comment than that. The pack will also bring in weapons and vehicles from "Battlefield 2," map-specific rewards and the always-enticing exclusive achievements and trophies, as was previously reported.
All three maps come from "Battlefield 2," a PC-only release. Wake Island is originally a "Battlefield 1942" map, updated for "BF2" and locked at 64-player matches. Gulf of Oman is a coastal environment, with lots of open areas and a large body of water for naval engagements. And Strike at Karkand is an urban map, the only one that features no aircraft. There's no word on whether or not the maps will be altered from their "BF2" incarnations beyond the expected visual boost from the game's Frostbite 2 engine. Of course, the destructible environments offered in "BF3" will be new to all of these locations, so even if the layouts are the same they're certainly going to be looking a lot different after each match.
Since you're here, why not gaze at the new trailer one more time? It's nothing substantive, just a bunch of flashes, but those flashes look righteous indeed.

Take Any Character from Any Game and Start Playing – All in One Games Engine
Click on image for larger view
You have played lots of games, right? If you are classic games fan then this one is the most fun to play. You have played Marvel VS Capcom, Cyber Bots, DC, Mega Man, Red earth, Ninja Turtles, Street Fighters, King of Fighters, Spider Man and many many more games right? Well, there is a way that you can mix them all up – choose your stage or background, choose any character, choose any opponent from all the games you have played and create your own fighting game. Its a platform where you can install characters from any game and choose from many stages. Let’s say Ken VS Spiderman, Ryo VS Wonder Man, Aquaman VS Snake Eyes, Juggernaut VS Cammy (Oh! I love Cammy)…Whatever you want. There are many options to choose from. You will need an emulator and you will need to download characters and stages of your choice to start playing. Sumit Gogawat suggested us this one. Thank you Sumit Gogawat.
The emulator is Mugan and we will tell you how to customize it and make it all in one Fighting Game Platform. You can add limitless characters that have been ported by people that are available to download.
"Mugen" is a word of Japanese origin, meaning dream, fantasy, or infinite... "M.U.G.E.N" is a freeware 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte, released on July 17th, 1999. The program was written in C with the Allegro library. Beta versions were made for DOS, Linux and Windows, and was distributed through their website. "M.U.G.E.N" is actually an unknown acronym. The creators, Elecbyte, never told what it was. In fact, they admittedly stated that they forgot what it stood for. All sorts of strange combination can be had e.g. Homer vs Batman.
Basically, M.U.G.E.N allows users to create their own 2D fighting game, using the core game engine provided. From the characters, to the stages, to the background music, to the life bars & power bars, text font, and even in-game character stories... You can create pretty much anything you want once you learn the programming, and it's not incredibly hard either. If you ever had a dream of creating your own fighting game, M.U.G.E.N is a good "practice run," to say the least.
Creating an actual character yourself is a time-consuming process, as "contributors" or "creators for M.U.G.E.N" actually taking the time to rip the sprites, and code it from scratch. Some use the original characters and sprites themselves; others use existing characters/sprites to create other various recognizable characters (AKA palette swap). Then there are the die-hards that actually create their own 2D sprites and animations from scratch!
Some Capcom and SNK characters, coded by the creators, play nearly exactly the way they should from their original games! But characters for M.U.G.E.N aren't limited to Capcom, SNK, or Sammy characters as you can see from the pics. As long as it's a 2D sprite, you can put it into M.U.G.E.N... And there's no limit to how many characters you can put on the game, well, it really depends on the size of the selection screen that users can also create from scratch.

From Modern to "Future" Warfare: New Battlefield 3 Details Emerge
Electronic Arts today announced new details for the upcoming Battlefield 3, including 64-person multiplayer (on PC) and a "next-generation game engine for current-generation platforms."
EA claims the new engine, dubbed Frostbite 2, has larger scale, more destruction, and the better character animation more commonly found in EA Sports games.
"Frostbite 2 is a game-changer for shooter fans," says EA's Karl Magnus, in his best marketing voice. "We call it a next-generation engine for current-generation platforms."
Hyperbole aside, I like the game's style. "Battlefield 3 preserves the franchise's signature sandbox style and even brings back classic fan favorites like jets, going prone, and 64-player multiplayer on PC," says executive producer Patrick Bach.
Given the series' past, not to mention its popular spin-off, is Battlefield 3 a day one purchase for you when it arrives this fall?
