Sony To Hold Sunday News Conference On PlayStation Hacking - Many Questions To Be Answered
I'm expecting to learn a great deal from this including when multiplay will be reinstated.....
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES - 12 Minutes ago
TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Japanese electronics and entertainment conglomerate Sony Corp. (SNE, 6758.TO) said Saturday it would hold a weekend press briefing to explain the breach at its online game network that compromised the personal information of millions of users and forced the company to shut down the service for the past 10 days.
Sony said it will hold the briefing at its Tokyo headquarters on Sunday, over a holiday weekend in Japan, to explain the breach at the PlayStation Network and Qriocity streaming video and music services. Kazuo Hirai, head of Sony's videogames and consumer-electronics business, will take part.
The briefing will come a few days after two U.S. Congress members asked Hirai, whom the company has identified as the front runner to eventually replace Chief Executive Howard Stringer, to explain when it first learned of the breach, why the company waited days to notify its customers and how it intends to prevent future incidents.
Sony has said that a hacker penetrated the security of its PlayStation Network earlier this month and gained access to the names, birth dates and possibly credit-card information for the 77 million registered accounts on the service. The company said it discovered the breach between April 17 and 19 and shut down the network on April 20.
It waited until April 26 to notify its users about the hacking. Sony has said there is no evidence that data from the encrypted credit-card database was stolen, but it couldn't rule it out. Sony said it is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law-enforcement groups to investigate the intrusion.

The Darkspore Beta Testing Is Over - Updated with HD Video
Here is a game I played as the "hero" Zrin.......
The original video quality was terrible so I replaced it with an HD vid.
The video can also be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJwyD-3e9gs
In this video I am using the character or "hero" Zrin. It was about 5:00AM and I was half asleep but myself and three others got the job done. I forgot what level this is. It's a really cool game that just requires a mouse and sometimes the 1,2,3,4 or 5 button for special moves.
It's $50 USD and it's for PCs only. The graphics and sound are fantastic. System requirements are pretty minimal.
You can play with up to 3 other players but you can't communicate with them except in a chatbox between rounds.
One huge plus is that you can modify the look, shape and color of your character.
Go to Darkspore.com for more info.
More on the "hero" Zrin HERE.

When will playstation network be back online? "Within a week." - Largest breach of private information ever
The 411 on the hack attack and steps you can take to protect yourself.
Patrick Seybold, Sony Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media released the following:
I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a point and answer one of the most frequently asked questions today.
There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.
For those who were looking there’s also an FAQ with some more:
PSN/Qriocity services have not been available since April 20 (US time) in all regions.
2. Why did the PSN/Qriocity become unavailable?
An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.
3. Why was Sony not prepared for a compromise of its network?
We are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the situation. Since this is an overall security related issue, we cannot comment further at this time.
4. Is the attack by “Anonymous” or another party?
We are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the situation. Since this is an overall security related issue, we cannot comment further at this time.
5. Why is it taking so long to restore network services?
As soon as we learned of this issue, we temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services in order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
6. How serious is this compromise? How will Sony prevent this from happening again?
Because there is an on-going investigation we cannot comment further at this time, but we are working to restore and maintain and strengthen the services, including incorporating additional countermeasures to ward against future intrusions.
7. When will service be restored?
We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week.
We will keep the service down to allow us to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure smooth operation of our network services when they return; we are working hard to resume the services as soon as we can be reasonably assured our security concerns have been addressed.
8. Did SOE experience an attack due to the same reason?
SOE’s services are currently available, but they did experience a service interruption due to an external attack. An investigation is ongoing.
9. Have you had such a long PSN/Qriocity service termination like this one in the past?
No.
10. Does PSN/Qriocity get attacked very often?
We cannot make any comments regarding this matter at this time.
11. I want my money back (subscription fee, content) since the PSN/Qriocity was not available.
While we are still assessing the impact of this incident, we recognize that this may have had financial impact on our loyal customers. We are currently reviewing options and will update you when the service is restored.
12. There seems to be some games that cannot be played even offline?
Some games may require access to PSN for trophy sync, security checks or other network functionality and therefore cannot be played offline.
13. Why are Sony Online Entertainment services available while PSN and Qriocity are still down and you (SCE/Sony) are not able to even tell us when it will come back again?
As our investigation in this matter is ongoing, we cannot comment further on this matter.
14. What personally identifying information do you suspect has been compromised?
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information provided by PlayStation Network/Qriocity account holders: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birth date, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password, login, and handle/PSN online ID. Other profile data may also have been obtained, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip). If an account holder has authorized a sub-account for a dependent, the same data with respect to that dependent may have been obtained. If an account holder provided credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, it is possible that the credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.
15. How will I know if my personal information has been compromised?
We have provided notices to consumers at the email addresses associated with their PlayStation Network/Qriocity accounts. You may also visit www.us.playstation.com/support and www.qriocity.com for notices regarding this issue. In addition, we have taken steps to disseminate information regarding this issue to media outlets so that consumers are informed. To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your credit card account statements and to monitor your credit reports.
16. What steps have you taken to investigate this compromise?
We have engaged an outside, recognized security firm to investigate this incident and to assist us in our ongoing efforts to protect your personally identifiable information.
17. I got an email from you asking for my PSN/Qriocity sign-in ID and password. Is it really you asking for this information?
Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking.
18. What should I do to avoid having my personal information compromised?
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, postal mail or other scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. Additionally, if you use the same user name or password for your PlayStation Network or Qriocity service account for other
19. Why did Sony wait until now to tell PSN users that their personal information may have been compromised?
The nature of the intrusion required that we undertake an extensive and thorough investigation of the matter, which took considerable effort and time. We needed to make sure that we knew and understood the facts before providing the appropriate notice to PlayStation Network users.
Protecting Yourself:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:
We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.

Other Security Advice not from Sony:
In what is being called the largest breach of private information ever, the personal data of 70 million PlayStation Network and Qriocity users has been compromised.
Sony confirmed the data breach for the first time in a statement yesterday. Its online gaming and entertainment services have been down since April 20 after what Sony has labeled an “external intrusion.” Here is how you can protect yourself:
Change Passwords
If you're a PlayStation Network customer, the first thing you should do is determine if you've used the same password with other accounts. If so, change it immediately and -- this time -- use different passwords for different accounts. One way to create a password that's easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess is to create a phrase like "I met Susie Jmith in 1992" and use the initials such as ImSJi#92. Be sure to include some upper case letters and at least one symbol and number. Here are some tips for strong, secure passwords from ConnectSafely.org
Check Credit Reports
This is also a good time to start checking your credit reports. In the U.S. you can get a free annual credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com.
You can also place a fraud alert at the three credit bureaus:
Experian: 888-397-3742, Equifax: 800-525-6285 and TransUnion: 800-680-7289
Be Careful about Email & Phishing
Because the trove of data includes email addresses, be especially careful about any offers or alerts that may come via email. You might, for example, have a higher risk of a phishing attack where someone sends you an official looking email asking you to click on a link so you can log into a site to deal with a supposed security breach or other bogus issue. I wouldn't be surprised to see phishing attacks to appear to look as if they come from Sony.
Check Your Other Accounts
Also, the thief or thieves likely have access to the challenge questions that Sony stored on its servers which increases the risk of someone breaking into your other accounts. Check all of your online accounts frequently to be sure there is no unauthorized activity.
Talk with Your Children and Teens
Many PlayStations are used by children and teens and this breach affects any account associated with the device, including children's accounts. This is a good time to have a discussion with your children about basic security including warning them about phishing attacks and bogus email. Here are ConnectSafely's tips for smart videogaming.

- U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
- We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a “fraud alert” on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below.
- Experian: 888-397-3742; www.experian.com; P.O. Box 9532, Allen, TX 75013
- Equifax: 800-525-6285; www.equifax.com; P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241
- TransUnion: 800-680-7289; www.transunion.com; Fraud Victim Assistance Division, P.O. Box 6790, Fullerton, CA 92834-6790
- You may wish to visit the web site of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at www.consumer.gov/idtheft or reach the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 or 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580 for further information about how to protect yourself from identity theft. Your state Attorney General may also have advice on preventing identity theft, and you should report instances of known or suspected identity theft to law enforcement, your State Attorney General, and the FTC. For North Carolina residents, the Attorney General can be contacted at 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-9001; telephone (877) 566-7226; or www.ncdoj.gov. For Maryland residents, the Attorney General can be contacted at 200 St. Paul Place, 16th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202; telephone: (888) 743-0023; or www.oag.state.md.us.

Sony: No End In Sight to PlayStation Network Downtime
Sony has no idea when its PlayStation Network servers will be back online, the company said Monday.
The online gameplay/shopping service for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PSP has been offline since last Wednesday night. On its blog, Sony cited an “external intrusion” as the reason for the downtime. Today it added that the company would be completely retooling the PlayStation Network in a “time intensive process” with no set end date.
If you’ve used a credit card on the PlayStation Network, you might want to keep an eye on your statements: Sony doesn’t yet know if customers’ financial information has been compromised by whomever cracked its servers, a representative told the IDG News Service.
Though the outage may appear to be the work of the hacker group Anonymous, which declared “war” on Sony following the company’s lawsuit against hacker George Hotz, Anonymous has disavowed responsibility.

Info Leaked About PSN Hack - What Happened And When It Will Be Fixed
Answers Surrounding Playstation Network Hack Attack Leaked
An unnamed Sony source says that PSN's Japanese servers may be restored on Monday, and that U.S. and Europe servers would follow on Tuesday. So far, this information is unconfirmed.
Watch video at the end of article showing evidence that FBI is after Anonymous.
A source with close connections to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reports that the attack to the PlayStation Network may be a bit deeper than originally reported by Sony. According to the Sony source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. There was also a concentrated attack on the PlayStation servers holding account information. In addition, “Admin Dev accounts were breached.”
As a result, “Sony then shut down the PSN and [is] currently in the process of restoring backups to new servers with new admin dev accounts.” The SCEE source said Japanese servers may be restored tomorrow while the U.S. and E.U. servers will likely be operational the following day.
While this information is only corroborated via a series of Facebook messages, it is certainly not a stretch. Sony Computer Entertainment America recently confirmed that it pulled down the PSN because of an "external intrusion." This essentially means that hackers were to blame. Sony is officially conducting a thorough investigation. The PSN and Qriocity services were pulled offline by Sony on Wednesday, April 20.
There was plenty of speculation late this week that the Anonymous hackers group was to blame for the PSN downtime. The group previously targeted Sony in retaliation to the legal action against another hacker. Anonymous has since denied involvement in the current PSN downtime.
Again, this information is from a source who claims to have a very close connection with someone at SCEE. We take these reports for what they are at this time, but it is certainly a possibility. If you have information to share, please do so.
"Everyone deserves the right to know what’s been going on," the source wrote in an email.

Sony Admits PlayStation Network Hacked - Has No idea When Issue Will Be Resolved
Why Did Sony lie about being hacked? They most likely didn't want to appear vulnerable to their customers and shareholders. They must have hoped they could call this an outage or system bug and fix it before full PS3 withdrawal set in with their loyal customers. Not only did Sony know they were hacked all along, the inability to log-on wasn't the hack itself, the PSN shut it down to prevent further damage. What's worse is they still do not appear to understand what happened or when it will be resolved.
The Playstation Site released the following statement Friday Evening:
- Home
- Knowledge Center
- Answer
Answer ID: 2185 |
Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter.
During this time you may:
- Not be able to access the PlayStation®Store
- Have difficulty signing in to the PlayStation®Network
- Not be able to play online games
- See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation®Network
Note: When you log into the PlayStation Network, a message may appear which states, "the PlayStation Network has been suspended". This does not mean that your account has been suspended; it simply means the PlayStation Network has been taken offline. Please wait until the maintenance window has passed before attempting to connect to the PlayStation Network again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
-------------------------------------------------------
Shacknews.com responded, "Though it provides little information on when PS3 owners might see online services restored, the language hints at the potential severity of the situation. Both the PlayStation Network and Qriocity have been compromised to such a degree that Sony felt it had no alternative but to pull the plug. With both systems containing significant amounts of customer personal and credit card data, the implication that at some point that information may not have been secure gives some cause for concern.
As reported in an earlier response to the situation, Seybold wrote that the system could be down for 'a day or two' while the company investigated the situation and effected repairs. While not untruthful, that statement came after the April 20 time given today as the time when Sony turned off the systems. Given the sensitivity of the situation it's understandable that Sony would want to be careful in what information it released; however, should customer data be involved, the company will need to act quickly to share the nature of the exposure with those affected.
When PSN first went down many presumed the hacker group Anonymous might be resuming its denial of service attack. For its part, though, Anonymous claims it has nothing to do with this round of trouble. A post on the group's blog states, "While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened."

Sony Denies Hack - Doesn't know What Happened - "Outage" Could Last Two days
Sony Denies Being Hacked
Sony first confirmed the outage at 5:50 PM Wednesday night, when Patrick Seybold, the senior director of corporate communications and social media, reported that "We're aware certain functions of PlayStation Network are down," Seybold said. "We will report back here as soon as we can with more information."
At 9:34 AM on Thursday, Seybold added the latest information, which will be grim news for PlayStation players. "While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running," Seybold added. "Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we'll update you again as soon as we can."
Reports also said that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe had posted its suspicions about a hacking attempt, but by press time, the European PlayStation blog had been apparently edited to mimic the U.S. version.
"As you are no doubt aware, the current emergency outage is continuing this afternoon and all Sony Online Network services remain unavailable," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PS blog manager James Gallagher posted today. "Our support teams are investigating the cause of the problem, including the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party. If the reported Network problems are indeed caused by such acts, we would like to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service."
The outage apparently is not the work of Anonymous, the industry hacker group that had turned its ire to Sony, announcing a worldwide protest in the wake of Sony's litigation against George Hotz, which was eventually settled, but not before Hotz vowed to join the boycott as well.
"ATTENTION: For everyone coming here complaining about the PSN or inquiring about it, We Do Not Know What Happened," a member of the group posted on its Facebook page. "This is not the work of Anonymous."

PS3 Hacked April 21 - PSN Hacked April 21 - Sony Hacked - Playstation Attacked By Hackers As Retaliation
PS3/PSN members see this when they try to log-in to their site:
Nobody can log-in to the PSN site http://us.playstation.com/ or play on-line either. Hackers are claiming responsibility on forums in response in retaliation to this: Pay close attention to the last paragraph................
PS3 hacker George "Geohot" Hotz has donated $10,000 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which supported Hotz in his defense against Sony.
Hotz posted a screen shot of his $10,000 PayPal donation on his blog. "As promised, all left over legal defense money, plus a little to bump it to a nice number, has been sent to EFF," he wrote. "Thank you all so much for your support, without it, things could have been much worse."
Earlier this month, Hotz and Sony mutually agreed to settle their suit, and Hotz agreed to a permanent injunction against posting information that Sony wanted removed. Sony and Hotz were at odds after Hotz hacked the Sony PS3 and posted his circumvention technique on his Web site, as well as links for others to do the same. Sony claimed that Hotz violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by doing so, and that Sony would have suffered irreparable harm if Hotz's actions were not curtailed.
The EFF has not commented on the Hotz donation, but in a blog post after the settlement was announced, the organization suggested that the deal might "chill security research on Sony products."
"The judicial process should never be used to shut down lawful communication and investigation. Here's hoping future security researchers will refuse to be intimidated and that other companies will decline to follow Sony's heavy-handed example," wrote EFF's Corynne McSherry.
Hotz wasn't so sure that would be the case. "If you piss them off enough for them to pull out the legal team and their million dollar checkbook, worst thing that happens is you have to super swear to never do it again," he wrote on his blog.
Hotz won't be the one to piss them off next time, though. "As much as I don't respect the goons at Sony, I do respect the court," he wrote. "At the end of the day, something I take comfort in. The PS3 got OWNED."
Hotz did speculate how Sony will handle security for its next-generation portable device, codenamed NGP, the successor to the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
"I'm curious as to who Sony is hiring for NGP security. Lawyers? Get the code to sign a contract that it won't have exploits? You shouldn't piss off the community of people who are actually talented at this stuff. Hell, maybe you even pissed off your engineering employees enough to leave some nice backdoors?" he wrote.

Info of the logic:
PS3 hacker George ‘Geohot’ Hotz just got himself a powerful ally in ‘hacktivist’ ensemble Anonymous. Hotz was the first hacker to crack security on the PlayStation 3, allowing (perfectly legal) homebrew software and (not-so-legal) pirated games to be played.
Since then, there’s been a rap video, a lawsuit brought by Sony against Hotz, and accusations from Sony that the hacker had fled to South America (he was actually on spring break).
Things could get interesting for Sony now that Anonymous has entered the fray, and by ‘interesting’ I do of course mean ‘quite bad’. Anonymous, which has previously hacked Gawker, Amazon, Mastercard, and computer ‘security’ firm HBGary, released the following threatening statement on it's site: http://www.inquisitr.com/102639/anonymous-declares-war-on-sony-over-ps3/

Multiplayer to be at Core of Twisted Metal - Release Date 10-04-11
New details on Twisted Metal’s multiplayer modes have been released, indicating that there will be a much heavier focus on it than in previous entries.
The Twisted Metal franchise has classically been focused on a single player or co-op experience, perhaps due to the lack of technology to do otherwise. However, the new iteration doesn’t see these limitations, and so it seems that multiplayer competition will be a primary focus, despite there still being single player campaigns as well. During a Sony press conference in California three of the modes were revealed, and each of them pits teams of players against one another to accomplish various goals. Each team represents one of four gangs, known as the Clowns, the Dolls, the Holy Men and the Skulls. Each of those factions is led by main characters Sweet Tooth, Dollface, Preacher, and Mr. Grim respectively.
The three modes revealed so far are Deathmatch, Last Man Standing, and Nuke. The first two seem like pretty standard fare. Deathmatch obviously requires kills for points, with the team who scores the most wins. Last Man Standing is an elimination style mode, where each team shares a pool of lives, and gets eliminated when they run out. Nuke is a bit more interesting, where teams are either defending a landmark such as a statue, or trying to attack that landmark with the ultimate goal of launching a nuclear missile at it. Some members of the defensive team will be positioned around the base of the landmark with guns to defend it while the rest of their team drives around to deter the opposition. The attackers meanwhile will attempt to capture those positioned defenders, and then throw them into a rocket launcher, which then sets off the nuke. The mode is meant to encourage tactics and strategy rather than just all out warfare, but it sounds like it could still be a pretty chaotic and crazy scenario.
New weapons have also been added into the game, but only one was described so far, the sniper rifle. Immediately upon hearing this the thought of aiming a sniper rifle while driving sounds incredibly difficult, but it doesn’t quite work as you might expect. Instead of simply aiming and firing, players must lock on to an enemy, which powers up the weapon. The more it powers up, obviously the more damage, even to the extent where a one hit kill by lining up a head shot is possible, which is a Twisted Metal first. It was also revealed during the event that there will be experience gained as you play, unlocking various rewards as you progress.
So far it sounds like a lot of thought and attention is being given to the multiplayer mode for Twisted Metal, which is a very smart move for the series. Despite having multiplayer modes in previous iterations, this is a great opportunity to really flesh it out, and make the series feel fresh for old fans and newcomers alike. Single player will still be available for fans of campaigns, which will apparently include deeper background stories for each character, so don’t fret if you’re not a fan of going online. Unfortunately Eat, Sleep, Play isn’t talking about that part much at the moment, but hopefully we’ll learn more soon.

Homefront Submits PS3 Patch to Sony and Awaits Approval
From Homefront's News Page:
Playstation 3 Game Update Progress
The Homefront team submitted a Playstation 3 update to Sony earlier today. While we do not have an exact date for this update to be approved, we will be working very closely with Sony to fully test and deliver this update as quickly as possible.
This PS3 update should address many of the issues our community has identified with the game over the past few weeks. Once Sony approves it, we will reveal more specific information about what this update contains.
The entire team at both KAOS and THQ would like to thank you for playing Homefront and being a member of our community. We appreciate your dedication and patience as we continue to improve and enhance the game with each update.
Sincerely,
The Homefront Team

Darkspore Open Beta Begins Tuesday, April 12th - Ends April 22nd
This weekend was the last of the closed beta for Darkspore which was why I wasn't on the PS3.
Starting Tuesday, you can participate in the open beta which will run until April 22nd. Just go to Darkspore.com and download the game at the top right of the page. I believe you need a free EA account. It's well worth your time and it's just $49 USD if you want to buy it.

Socom Multiplayer Beta Open To All PS3 Players - Contains Two Maps
Socom 4 Open Beta Schedule April 5th-13th
Anyone and everyone with PSN access can freely download the SOCOM 4 beta from the PlayStation Store during its regularly-scheduled update. The beta’s availability on the PlayStation Store ends April 12.
"Our servers will be open all day every day until the beta period ends on April 13 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (2:59am Eastern). However, we will limit what modes are available for the first few days to keep our testing focused before opening all queues for the home stretch. Here’s how the schedule looks in its final phase:
Tuesday (4/5) – Last Defense, Classic Last Defense, Uplink, Classic Uplink
Wednesday (4/6) – Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad, Last Defense, Classic Last Defense
Thursday (4/7) – Sniper Alley (Custom), Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom), Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad
Friday (4/8) – All Gametypes Open
Saturday (4/9) – All Gametypes Open
Sunday (4/10) – All Gametypes Open
Monday (4/11) – All Gametypes Open
Tuesday (4/12) – All Gametypes Open
Wednesday (4/13) – All Gametypes Open
As it has been from the beginning, our multiplayer beta includes two maps, Port Authority and Assault & Battery, and offers a variety of built-in game-types and custom game-types. Here they are:
Suppression : SOCOM 4’s version of “team deathmatch.”
Last Defense: Capture controls points, discover the enemy base and destroy it.
Uplink: Steal enemy data and deliver it to your base.
Bomb Squad: Defend your bomb technician while he disarms enemy explosives.
Sniper Alley (Custom): An 8 vs. 8 version of Classic Suppression with higher damage. Weapons are limited to sniper rifles, shotguns, smoke grenades and poison gas.
Last Defense Run 'n Gun (Custom): Faster movement speed and reduced damage are applied to 16 vs. 16 Last Defense with weapons restricted to only shotguns and SMGs.
Scrum (Custom): Suppression is given rule tweaks of no respawn, faster movement and higher damage, while sniper rifles, frag grenades, concussion grenades and poison gas are disallowed.
All built-in game-types (i.e. non-“Custom" queues) are playable in both the Standard and Classic variations. Standard mode is similar to the single-player experience, while Classic mode is similar to older SOCOM titles with increased movement speeds, round-based play, no player respawns and the lack of health regeneration. Our Custom types mix and match a number of game settings depending on their focus.
After you've had a chance to play the beta, we'd need to hear your feedback! To do so, simply head on over to our official “Beta Forum” on SOCOM.com where you can tell us what you think.
On behalf of everyone at Zipper Interactive, I want to thank all of you who have participated in the SOCOM 4 beta regardless of its phase, and look forward to seeing you again when we ship the full and complete version of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs when it launches on April 19 across North America.
Oh, and don’t forget to pre-order SOCOM 4 today to gain access to a pair of exclusive slug-powered shotguns (one each for Spec Ops and the Insurgents), while those who specifically pre-order at GameStop get the shotguns in addition to the exclusive Suppression map, “Abandoned,” inspired by the classic map of the same name from SOCOM 1 and II!"

Download and Play Bulletstorm's Call of Duty Parody - Duty Calls for Free
Epic Games and People Can Fly's Bulletstorm has been marketed as a game whose excess and irreverence are intended to serve as antidotes to the often serious tone and focus on realism for which traditional first-person shooters tend to aim. Now, the companies are driving this messaging home with a new downloadable game that intentionally parodies Activision's Call of Duty.
Duty Calls: The Calm Before The Storm -- pokes plenty of fun at the Call of Duty brand, from its logo and visual palette to its dialogue and objectives, which often elect being true to conventions of the military game genre over being especially surprising or inventive.
"Here's your objective," a gruff, soldierly voice barks in the online trailer. "Blah blah blah blah secret base; blah blah nuclear missile bomb."
Epic's Cliff Bleszinski joined the fun, deadpanning on Twitter: "Wow. I'm blown away. This game will redefine military shooters for years to come,"
Of course, the parody -- intentionally or not -- subtly draws on the visible, ugly legal fight that BulletStorm distributor Electronic Arts has had with Activision over the co-founders of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare house Infinity Ward. Self-protectively, Duty Calls' official page features the clear footnote: "Duty Calls is a parody. It is not associated with Activision or the Call of Duty games."
The minimum system requirements to play Duty Calls are as follows:
Supported OS: Windows XP SP2+, Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: 2.0+ GHZ Single Core Processor
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA 6200+ or ATI Radeon 9600+ Video Card
Sound: Windows Supported Sound Card
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB

Battlefield 3 Release Date Leaked - November 1st, 2011
Although DICE has been candid about Battlefield 3's features and development priorities, the company hasn't been quick to share a release date. We've only heard that the game is expected to appear sometime in the latter half of 2011, but CVG may have discovered a potential launch date. According to a screenshot published by the site, the French version of EA's Download Manager displays a release date of November 2, 2011 -- the same timeframe as COD: MW3.
Many question the accuracy of that date as it falls on a Wednesday instead of Tuesday, which has become the traditional release day for major game launches in North America. European launches usually occur later in the same week, often on Friday. The fact that the screenshot is in French adds another layer of ambiguity, as November 2 might be the EU launch while it's actually scheduled to land in the US on Tuesday, November 1. But again, this is all speculation.
As one of 2011's most anticipated PC titles, it goes without saying that we're pretty excited about Battlefield 3. DICE is developing the game in its new Frostbite 2.0 engine and has promised that the PC version is receiving the most attention. Battlefield 3 reportedly features co-op gameplay, four classes, non-superficial character customizations, more unlockables than Battlefield: Bad Company 2, as well as improved level destruction, character animations and war sounds.
