From Modern to "Future" Warfare: New Battlefield 3 Details Emerge
Electronic Arts today announced new details for the upcoming Battlefield 3, including 64-person multiplayer (on PC) and a "next-generation game engine for current-generation platforms."
EA claims the new engine, dubbed Frostbite 2, has larger scale, more destruction, and the better character animation more commonly found in EA Sports games.
"Frostbite 2 is a game-changer for shooter fans," says EA's Karl Magnus, in his best marketing voice. "We call it a next-generation engine for current-generation platforms."
Hyperbole aside, I like the game's style. "Battlefield 3 preserves the franchise's signature sandbox style and even brings back classic fan favorites like jets, going prone, and 64-player multiplayer on PC," says executive producer Patrick Bach.
Given the series' past, not to mention its popular spin-off, is Battlefield 3 a day one purchase for you when it arrives this fall?
